# Respond to Action Requests (Approvers)

This article explains how to find, approve, and deny action requests that you've been asked to authorize.
You can respond to a request when you have the **Approve or deny approval requests** permission and your SAML group matches the rule that produced the request.

For an overview of action approvals, see [About Action Approvals][about].

[about]: /data-protection/account-administration/access-management/action-approvals/about-action-approvals

You don't need permission to perform the underlying action.
The rule restricts who can approve, while the underlying permission restricts who can submit a request.

You can't approve your own action request, even if you belong to an approver group for the rule.

## Find pending action requests

To find requests awaiting your approval, on the

Awaiting approval page

, review the list.
The page shows all action requests for which you're a possible approver.

You can also reach the page from the three-dot menu next to your email in the console.
A notification dot on the menu indicates that there are requests awaiting your approval.

To get notified by email or Slack when a request needs attention, set up a notification policy.
For setup steps, see [About Notification Policies][notifications].

## Approve or deny a request

To respond to a request:

#### Open the request

On the

Awaiting approval page

, click the request you want to respond to.
The request page shows the action, the requester, the rule description, and how much time remains for approval.

#### Decide

Review the action and the rule description before deciding:

* Approve if you're satisfied that the action should proceed.
If the rule requires multiple approvers, your approval counts as one of them.
When the last required approver approves, the request moves to **Ready to apply**.

* Deny if the action shouldn't proceed.
  Denial is immediate and terminal.
Once a single approver denies a request, no further approvals can change it, and the requester can't apply the action.

#### Add a message and submit

Optionally, add a message that explains your decision.
The message is shown to the requester and to other approvers.

Click the approve or deny button to submit your response.

After you respond, the request reflects your decision.
If the rule requires more approvals, the request remains in **Awaiting approval** until the remaining approvers respond or the time period elapses.
