# Resource Classifications

This article is a comprehensive reference of the classifications Eon applies to your resources.
In cases where the Eon API uses a value other than the display name, the API value is provided here.

Eon applies these classifications to your resources based on their properties, metadata, and data:

>
> If you manually override any classification, Eon stops updating the classification for that resource.
> Reverting the override allows Eon to update the classification again.
>
> Overriding a classification can change the backup policies, backup posture controls, and data access controls that apply to a resource.

## Data classes

| Display name | API value     | Description                                  |
| ------------ | ------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| PII          | `PII`         | Personally identifiable information          |
| FI           | `FI`          | Financial information                        |
| PHI          | `PHI`         | Protected health information                 |
| Credentials  | `CREDENTIALS` | Secrets that grant access to systems or data |

For RDS for PostgreSQL and Aurora PostgreSQL, data classes also decide which columns Eon can mask when you restore a database.
