To decide which resources to fix first, see [Find Resources That Need Attention](/data-protection/backup-and-protection/backup-management/find-resources-that-need-attention). ## Resource status Each resource has one status. | Status | Description | API value | | ----------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------ | | Backup assigned | A backup policy applies to the resource. | `ASSIGNED` | | Backup not assigned | No backup policy applies to the resource, and no one has excluded it from backup. | `UNASSIGNED` | | Initial classification | Eon recently discovered the resource and is scanning it for the first time. | `INITIAL_CLASSIFICATION` | | Initial classification failed | Eon tried repeatedly to classify the resource and couldn't, so it can't be backed up. Contact Eon Support to enable backup. | `CLASSIFICATION_FAILED` | | Access lost | Eon can't access the resource because permissions on its source account were removed or changed. Eon doesn't back up the resource, and its existing snapshots remain available. To restore access, see [Source Account Statuses](/data-protection/backup-and-protection/backup-configuration/source-accounts/source-account-statuses). | `ACCESS_LOST` | | Terminated | The resource was terminated in its source. Its existing snapshots remain available. | `TERMINATED` | | Disconnected | The resource's source account was disconnected, or a discovery exclusion rule matches the resource. | `DISCONNECTED` | | Excluded from backup | A team member asked Eon not to back up the resource, so Eon doesn't assign it to any backup policy. | `EXCLUDED_FROM_BACKUP` | | Out of scope | The resource exceeds a limit on your account, so Eon disables backup for it. | None | | Unsupported | Eon doesn't support backup for this kind of resource. For Azure Blob Storage, see [Azure: Blob Storage Support](/data-protection/cloud-workloads/azure/resources/blob-storage#backup-troubleshooting). | `UNSUPPORTED` | ## Backup posture status A control violation has the severity set on its control in your [backup posture controls](/data-protection/backup-and-protection/backup-management/backup-posture-controls/about-controls#severity). | Level | Color | | ------ | ------ | | High | Red | | Medium | Orange | | Low | Yellow | | Muted | Gray | Muted violations aren't counted. They don't affect the number of violated controls. ## Action items An action item is an issue to resolve in the resource's configuration. Eon automatically determines the severity of action items. | Level | Color | | ------ | ------ | | High | Red | | Medium | Orange | | Low | Yellow | ## Backup statuses (legacy) #### See the legacy statuses The status below, returned as `backupStatus` in the Eon API, has been split to resource status and backup posture status, as written in this article. > **Warning** > > The original `backupStatus` field is deprecated in the API. > Its support ends April 30, 2027. | | Status | API value | Now shown as | Description | | - | ---------------------- | ------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | Protected | `PROTECTED` | Backup assigned | The resource is continuously backed up by Eon and there are no control violations. | | | All violations muted | `ALL_VIOLATIONS_MUTED` | Backup assigned, with all violations muted | The resource violates at least one control, but someone muted all notifications. | | | Violations detected | `VIOLATIONS_DETECTED` | Backup assigned, with control violations | The resource violates a control. | | | Backed up by others | `GENERIC_BACKUPS` | Backup not assigned | The resource is backed up, but not by Eon, so you can't use the file explorer or database explorer, or restore files or records. | | | Not backed up | `NOT_BACKED_UP` | Backup not assigned | No backup policies apply to the resource, and no one has excluded it from backup. | | | Initial classification | `INITIAL_CLASSIFICATION` | Initial classification | The resource was recently discovered and is being scanned by Eon for the first time. The status will change after the scan is done. | | | Classification failed | `CLASSIFICATION_FAILED` | Initial classification failed | Eon tried repeatedly to classify the resource and couldn't, so it can't be backed up. Contact Eon Support to enable backup. | | | Action required | `ACTION_REQUIRED` | An action item (the resource stays Backup assigned or Backup not assigned) | The resource needs a configuration change in the source account to enable its inclusion in one or more backup policies. | | | Access lost | `ACCESS_LOST` | Access lost | Eon can't access the resource because permissions on its source account were removed or changed. Eon doesn't back up the resource, and its existing snapshots remain available. To restore access, see [Source Account Statuses](/data-protection/backup-and-protection/backup-configuration/source-accounts/source-account-statuses). | | | Terminated | `TERMINATED` | Terminated (Disconnected if the account was removed) | The resource was terminated in the source account. It still has Eon snapshots you can explore and restore. | | | Disconnected | `DISCONNECTED` | Disconnected | The resource's source account was disconnected from Eon. | | | Excluded from backup | `EXCLUDED_FROM_BACKUP` | Excluded from backup | The resource won't be backed up or scanned by Eon. | | | Unsupported | `UNSUPPORTED` | Unsupported | The resource's type or tier isn't supported for backup by Eon.
