# BigQuery: Restore a Dataset

This article explains how to restore a BigQuery dataset from your Eon snapshots.
You can restore all tables in the dataset, or select specific tables to restore.

To restore from a PiTR backup instead, see [BigQuery: Restore from PiTR](/data-protection/restoring/restore-cloud-workloads/gcp/bigquery/restore-from-pitr).

## Restore a BigQuery dataset

#### Before you start

Before you restore a BigQuery dataset, make sure:

* A restore account has been [connected to Eon](/data-protection/cloud-workloads/gcp/restore-projects/gcp-connect-restore-projects).

* The restore account has restore permissions version 1.3.4 or later.

#### Find the snapshot you want to restore

1. In your

   inventory

, select the BigQuery dataset you want to restore.
   The **Resource details** panel opens.

2. Click the **Eon snapshots** tab.
You'll see a calendar view with colored dots on the days when snapshots were taken.
There can be more than one snapshot per day.

When you click a day, a list of Eon snapshots taken that day is displayed below the calendar.

3. When you find the snapshot you want to restore, click **Restore**.
The **Restore BigQuery Dataset** wizard opens.

#### Choose the restore account

Choose the GCP project you want to restore to, and then click **Next**.

#### Configure the restore

In the **Configuration** step, set the following:

1. Enter a **Destination Dataset ID** for the new dataset.
This doesn't have to match the original dataset name.
If you enter the ID of an existing dataset, the restore fails if any of the tables you're restoring already exist in that dataset.

2. Choose a **Location** for the restored dataset.

3. In **Tables to Restore**, all tables in the snapshot are selected by default.
To restore only specific tables, remove the ones you don't need and select the ones you want.

4. Click **Restore** to start the asynchronous restore job.

#### Monitor the restore job

You can see your list of restore jobs on the

Restore jobs tab

in the Jobs page.

After the job is completed, the status changes to **SUCCESS**, and you can work with the restored dataset as normal.

For more information about restore job statuses, see [Restore Job Statuses].
