# Microsoft 365: Restore Teams Data

Restoring from Eon brings a channel's conversation back with each message's original author and timestamp intact, so the decision, the approval, or the incident timeline is readable again in a new channel.

This article explains how to restore Microsoft Teams channel messages from your Eon snapshots, either one channel at a time or every channel in a team at once.

A Microsoft Teams restore never overwrites.
Eon imports the messages into a new channel in the team they were backed up from, so the source channel is left untouched, and the restore goes only to the tenant the team was backed up from.
Standard channels, and the private and shared channels the team hosts, all restore, and Eon brings back message text and formatting, replies in their threads, inline images, and links to files shared in messages.
A shared channel the team only receives isn't part of that team's snapshot, so you restore it from the team that hosts it.

## Restore a channel

Restoring a channel imports its messages into a new channel in the same team.

#### Before you start

Before you restore a channel, make sure:

* A [Microsoft 365 restore tenant] is connected for the tenant the team was backed up from.

* The team the messages were backed up from still exists in the tenant.

* The restore tenant has consented to Eon's Microsoft 365 restore permissions.
Without that consent, Eon skips private and shared channels, so a restore of one of those channels fails.

#### Select the snapshot and the channel to restore

1. In your

   SaaS inventory

, open the Microsoft 365 tenant the team was backed up from.

2. Navigate to **Teams** in the side menu, and then select the team that holds the channel you want to restore.

3. Click the snapshot date.
You'll see a calendar view with colored dots on the days when snapshots were taken.
There can be more than one snapshot per day.

When you click a day, a list of Eon snapshots taken that day is displayed below the calendar.

4. Select the snapshot you want to restore.

5. Browse or search for the channel you want to restore, and then click **Restore channel**.

#### Choose the restore tenant

Choose the Microsoft 365 restore tenant you want to restore to.

#### Name the new channel

Enter a **New channel name**.
Eon suggests the source channel's name followed by `(restored YYYY-MM-DD HH.mm)`, with the current date and time in your browser's time zone.
You can edit the suggestion before you start the job.

#### Start the job and monitor it

Click **Restore**, then track the job from **View job**, or from the

Restore jobs tab

on the Jobs page.

The new channel is read-only while the restore runs.

When the job completes, the new channel becomes writable and holds the restored messages, each one attributed to its original author with its original timestamp.

A restored standard channel is open to everyone in the team.

For a private or shared channel, Eon adds back the members captured by the snapshot.
Members who are no longer in the team aren't added back.

## Restore a team

Restoring a team recreates every channel it had at the time of the snapshot, each as a new channel inside that same team.

#### Before you start

Before you restore a team, make sure:

* A [Microsoft 365 restore tenant] is connected for the tenant the team was backed up from.

* The team the messages were backed up from still exists in the tenant.

* You have room for the new channels.
A team restore adds one new channel for every channel in the snapshot, and Microsoft limits how many channels a team can hold.

* The restore tenant has consented to Eon's Microsoft 365 restore permissions.
Without that consent, Eon skips every private and shared channel, and the job finishes as **Partially complete** and names the channels it left out.

#### Select the snapshot to restore

1. In your

   SaaS inventory

, open the Microsoft 365 tenant the team was backed up from.

2. Navigate to **Teams** in the side menu, and then select the team you want to restore.

3. Click the snapshot date.
You'll see a calendar view with colored dots on the days when snapshots were taken.
There can be more than one snapshot per day.

When you click a day, a list of Eon snapshots taken that day is displayed below the calendar.

4. Select the snapshot you want to restore.

5. Click **Restore Team**.

#### Choose the restore tenant

Choose the Microsoft 365 restore tenant you want to restore to.

#### Start the job and monitor it

Click **Restore**, then track the job from **View job**, or from the

Restore jobs tab

on the Jobs page.

Each new channel is read-only while the restore runs.

Eon restores each channel into a new channel under its own name.
When a name is taken, Eon appends `(restored YYYY-MM-DD)` with the current UTC date.
If that name is taken too, Eon adds a number, giving a name such as `(restored 2026-10-11) 2`.

A restored standard channel is open to everyone in the team.

For a private or shared channel, Eon adds back the members captured by the snapshot.
Members who are no longer in the team aren't added back.
