Use the cost explorer
View options
The view options allow you to choose the time frame, grouping, and filtering to apply to the cost explorer.
-
Time frame
Choose the time frame you want to view. By default, the cost explorer shows the last complete billing cycle.-
To view according to your monthly billing cycle, select Billing cycle, and then select the month you want to view. The billing cycle runs from the 26th of the previous month to the 25th of the current month.
-
To view for another time period, select Date range, and then select the start and end dates you want to view.
-
-
Group by
Choose the dimension you want to group costs by. You can group by resource, resource type, or source account.Changing this option causes the Daily cost chart to display a daily value for each group, and allows you to see the each group’s aggregate cost in Total cost breakdown. If this option is set to Resource, the daily cost chart isn’t displayed.
-
Filter by
Filter the cost explorer for specific resources, resource types, or source accounts. If you set multiple filters, the cost explorer uses AND logic to filter the data.Changing this option reduces the Daily cost chart and Total cost breakdown to include only the resources that match all of the filters. It also updates the Total cost value to reflect the credits consumed by the filtered resources.
Daily cost chart
The Daily cost chart shows the cost of each group per day in the selected time frame. Roll over a day to see that day’s cost, broken down by group according to the Group by option you chose above.
The chart isn’t displayed if the cost explorer is grouped by resource.
Total cost breakdown
The Total cost breakdown section shows the total cost of each group in the selected time frame.
-
Expand a group to see details on credits and usage, broken down by usage type. For information on usage types, see Credits and usage types.
-
If the cost explorer is grouped by source account or resource type, you can quickly refine your grouping and filters by clicking a group’s (Explore by) button and selecting a new grouping option. Selecting this option also filters for the resource type or account the group represents.
This option isn’t available if the cost explorer is grouped by resource.
