Add the Eon Plugin for Cursor

This article explains how to add the Eon plugin to Cursor so you can manage data protection through natural language.

Add the Eon plugin for Cursor

The Eon plugin is installed from the cursor-eon-plugin repository on GitHub into Cursor’s local plugin directory. You clone the plugin, reload Cursor to activate it, then sign in to Eon through your browser.

Before you start

Before you start, make sure you have Cursor and Git installed. For more about testing plugins locally in Cursor, see Test plugins locally in the Cursor documentation.

1

Install and activate the Eon plugin

  1. Clone the Eon plugin into Cursor’s local plugin directory:

    mkdir -p ~/.cursor/plugins/local
    git clone https://github.com/eon-io/cursor-eon-plugin ~/.cursor/plugins/local/eon
  2. Reload Cursor to activate the plugin:

Restart Cursor, or run Developer: Reload Window from the Command Palette.

2

Authenticate with Eon

The Eon plugin connects to the Eon MCP server at https://mcp.eon.io/mcp through OAuth.

  1. Open Cursor Settings:

    • macOS: press Cmd+Shift+J
    • Windows or Linux: press Ctrl+Shift+J
  2. Go to Customize, find the eon MCP server from the Eon plugin, and click Connect.

  3. When your browser opens, enter your Eon subdomain, then sign in with your Eon credentials.

Your Eon subdomain is unique to your Eon account. For example, if your Eon account is hosted at vandelay.console.eon.io, your Eon subdomain is vandelay.

Cursor stores your authentication and refreshes tokens automatically. To revoke access later, disable or remove the eon server under Customize in Cursor Settings.

For more detail, see Model Context Protocol in the Cursor documentation.

The Eon plugin is now available in Cursor. You can ask Cursor to help with tasks like running resource discovery, checking backup status, and browsing your inventory.

To confirm the eon MCP server is connected, open Customize in Cursor Settings and check that the server is enabled.
