Manage Notification Policies for Webhooks

Who can use this feature

Anyone with these permissions: Manage notification policies

With a Webhook notification policy, Eon sends event notifications to an endpoint you control. Your alerting or automation tooling can react to Eon events as they happen.

This article explains how to use the Eon console to create a notification policy that sends notifications to a webhook.

Create a notification policy for Webhook

You can create notification policies from the Notification Policies page in the Eon console.

Before you start

Before you create the notification policy, make sure:

  • You have an endpoint that accepts POST requests from Eon at a URL you control. To learn what your endpoint must return, see Webhooks.

  • If you want Eon to send custom headers for authentication, you have the header names and values on hand.

1

Start a new notification policy

  1. On the Notification Policies page, click Create Notification Policy. The Create a Notification Policy wizard opens.

  2. Enter a Notification policy name that describes the endpoint notifications are sent to.

  3. Choose the Webhook notification channel type, then click Next.

2

Set the endpoint URL

In the Webhook URL field, enter the URL where Eon sends notifications, for example https://your-webhook-endpoint.com/notify.

3

Add authentication headers

To send headers that authenticate Eon to your endpoint, turn Custom headers on. Add each header as a key and value pair, such as Authorization or X-API-Key. Each header you add needs both a key and a value.

4

Prepare your endpoint

Set up your HTTP endpoint to handle the test notification and, depending on the notifications you choose in the next step, event notifications or audit log notifications. The API reference describes each request:

5

Choose the notifications to send

  1. Pick the notifications you want to send to the webhook.

  2. Optionally, set event conditions to filter which events trigger notifications:

To filter notifications to specific events, turn Apply event conditions on. With conditions turned on, you’ll receive notifications only for events that match the conditions you set.

To leave Apply event conditions off, you’ll receive notifications for all events of the selected types.

When you turn Apply event conditions on, click Set Condition to choose the event properties you want to filter by. You can filter by vaults, backup policies, resources, or source accounts.

You can set a simple AND or OR list of conditions, or you can group conditions for fine-tuned event filtering.

    Work with conditions

    • To add a condition: Click (Add condition), then select the property, operator, and value for the condition.

    • To add a condition within a group: Click the large (Add condition) button in the group, or select (Add condition) > Add condition > Above or Below. Then select the property, operator, and value for the condition.

    • To delete a condition: Click the condition’s (Actions) menu, then click Delete condition.

For each condition, set the property, operator, and value.

    Work with groups

    • To nest an existing condition or group in a group: In an existing condition or group, click (Actions) > Create group. Select the group’s logical AND or OR operator.

    • To delete a group and all the conditions it contains: Click the group’s (Actions) menu, then click Delete group.

  3. When you’re done, click Test and Create.

Eon sends a test notification to your endpoint and expects a 2xx response, such as 200. If the test fails, confirm that you’ve set everything up as required: check the Webhook URL and any Custom headers, and make sure your endpoint meets the requirements in Webhooks.

Once the notification policy is created, Eon sends the events you subscribed to your webhook endpoint.
