Find Resources That Need Attention

Who can use this feature

Anyone with these permissions: View inventory

When you manage backup for many resources, you need to know which ones aren’t protected, and why, without opening each one. Your Inventory shows each resource’s backup status. It also flags the resources that violate a control (a requirement your backup policies must meet) or have an action item (an issue to resolve in the resource’s configuration), and it marks the resources with threat findings. Together, these let you fix the most urgent resources first.

This article explains how to check which resources aren’t backed up and why, rank resources by control violations and action items, narrow the list with threat detection and posture filters, and fix what each resource points to.

Check which resources aren’t backed up and why

You can review the Status of every resource from your Inventory in the Eon console.

1

Identify each resource's backup status

In the Status column, each resource shows an icon for its status. Hover over an icon to see the status name, such as Backup assigned, Backup not assigned, or Excluded from backup.

2

Filter to the statuses you want

The inventory opens with a Status filter that leaves out some statuses, such as Disconnected, Excluded from backup, and Out of scope.

  1. In the filter bar, click Status. If Status isn’t there, click (Add filter) next to Filter by, and then click Status.

  2. Select the statuses you want to list, such as Backup not assigned or Access lost, and clear the others. The list updates as you change the selection.

3

Find why a resource has its status

Click the resource’s name to open its Resource details panel on the Overview tab. The Status box names the resource’s status and says why the resource has it.

Rank resources by control violations and action items

You can rank resources by their control violations and action items from your Inventory in the Eon console.

1

Rank resources by severity

Click the Posture issues column header. The first click puts the resources with the most severe issues at the top.

2

Review each resource's issues

Click the resource’s name to open its Resource details panel on the Overview tab. Then read the boxes that report a problem:

  • Control violations: The backup controls the resource violates.

  • Action items: The issues to resolve to improve the resource’s configuration.

  • Threat detection: The threat findings in the resource’s latest snapshot.

If there’s nothing to report, the box says No control violations.

Narrow the list by threat detection and posture issues

You can filter the list to resources with specific threat detection settings, control violations, or action items from your Inventory in the Eon console.

1

Filter by threat detection

Click (Add filter) next to Filter by, click Threat detection, and then choose a filter:

  • Threat detection assignment: Select Assigned, Not assigned, Excluded, or Unsupported.

  • Detection category: Select the type of finding in a resource’s latest scan: Ransomware, Malware, Anomalous activity, AI data risk, or Data exposure risk.

2

Filter by posture issues

Click (Add filter) next to Filter by, click Posture issues, and then choose a filter:

  • Violated controls: Select the controls whose violations you want to list. The controls are grouped by severity and a Muted group for muted violations. Selecting a group selects all of its controls.

  • Action items: Select the action items you want to list. The action items are grouped under High severity, Medium severity, and Low severity, and selecting a severity selects all of its action items.

The list shows only the resources that match your filters, and Reset returns it to the default view.

Fix the issues a resource shows

In the Resource details panel, which opens when you click a resource’s name in your Inventory, the Overview tab points to the next step for each issue. For an action item, read its description in the Action items box for the change to make. For the action item levels, see Resource Statuses.

1

Assign the resource to a backup policy

To add a resource with the Backup not assigned status to a backup policy, click Assign to Backup Policy in the Status box. In the Assign to backup policy dialog, select the policies, and then click Assign.

2

Cancel a backup exclusion

To let Eon back up a resource with the Excluded from backup status, click Cancel Backup Exclusion in the Status box. Eon manages the resource using the applicable backup policies and controls.

3

Restore access to the source account

To restore Eon’s access for a resource with the Access lost status, click Manage Source Connection in the Status box. The resource’s cloud provider page under Source connections opens. For AWS, Azure, and GCP resources, the page shows only the resource’s account.

For an AWS or GCP account:

  1. Click (Actions) for the account.

  2. Click Reinstall permissions, and follow the instructions in the panel that opens.

For other source types, see Source Account Statuses and Manage Source Accounts.

4

Mute or unmute a control violation

To mute a violation, click (Actions) for it in the Control violations box, and then click Mute. To unmute a violation, click Unmute instead.

If every violation is muted, the box shows All violations muted. Click View to list them.

To manage controls, click Control settings in the violation’s menu. Hover over the info icon to see what a control requires.

To resolve the violation, update your backup policies so the resource meets the control.

5

Review threat findings

To review a resource’s threat findings, click View Findings in the Threat detection box. The Threat center opens with the resource’s unresolved findings.
