About Object Filters
Available for Amazon S3 and Google Cloud Storage.
This article explains what Eon’s object filters are and how they help you back up only what you want to back up within your object storage.
Object filters are useful when you need to:
-
Back up only recently modified objects to reduce storage costs.
-
Exclude certain object paths within buckets, such as cache directories or temporary files.
-
Include only specific object paths that contain critical data.
You can create filters that apply to all buckets or target a specific bucket, then use prefix or modification date to include or exclude objects from backup.
Eon supports up to one filter per cloud provider per unique bucket name, and up to one all-buckets filter (with bucket name *) per cloud provider.
How object filters work
Object filters use prefix and date filters to determine which objects within buckets are backed up:
-
Bucket targeting: Filters can apply to all buckets (using
*) or target a specific bucket by exact name match. -
Include or exclude logic: Filters can be set to include only objects that meet the filter conditions, thereby excluding objects that don’t meet the conditions. Or they can be set to exclude objects that meet the filter conditions.
-
Object prefix filtering: You can specify an object prefix to filter which objects within the targeted bucket are included or excluded.
-
Modification date filtering: Rules can include or exclude objects based on when they were last modified.
