Restore Template Placeholders

This article describes the placeholders you can use in restore templates.

A placeholder in an EC2 template’s Naming or an S3 template’s Prefix template is filled in separately for each resource. That’s what lets one template give every restored resource its own name or prefix, for example restored_{original_name} for an instance or restored/{original_name}/ for a bucket. To create or edit a template, see Manage Restore Templates.

Placeholders

PlaceholderReplaced with
{original_name}The resource’s name in Eon, or its AWS resource ID when it has no name.
{original_id}The resource’s AWS resource ID.
{restore_date}The date of the restore, in UTC, as YYYY-MM-DD.
{restore_datetime}The date and time of the restore, in UTC, as YYYY-MM-DDTHH-MM-SSZ.
{backup_date}The date the snapshot was taken, in UTC, as YYYY-MM-DD.
{account}The name of the resource’s source account, or its ID when it has no name.
{original_tag.<key>}The value of the resource’s <key> tag, for example {original_tag.Environment}.

If a placeholder has no value for a resource, such as a tag key the resource doesn’t have, Eon can’t fill in the template for that resource, and a restore from it doesn’t start. In a bulk restore, that resource’s row fails validation, which blocks Restore for the whole batch.
